NEAT

Ah, NEAT. Puts a smile on my face just thinking about it.

Aren’t we cute? (That’s me on the left.)

NEAT is an online literary magazine that I started with my good friend and fellow writer TM Keesling. We accept fiction, poetry, and non-fiction, and we have a tumblr page dedicated to photography. NEAT is published quarterly. We are currently accepting submissions for our sixth issue (Fall 2014).

In the summer of 2013, we attended a party at a friend’s house, where we first really connected and got the gears grinding in the direction of what would become NEAT. We recognized that we were both passionate about reading and publishing — TM had had experience running a literary magazine in one of her undergraduate classes; I had worked for my undergraduate journal. We enjoyed the taste of what the publishing world could offer us. The next step was determining what we could offer.

A hint of our vision board — our own personal yellow brick road.

NEAT was born out of that discussion. We want to add to the literary conversation, and this is our chance. So far we have seen so much — great work, burgeoning friendships and networking, astounding growth. We recently bought our domain name, which was a super big deal! We were also interviewed by Benjamin Perry of Blank Fiction Magazine for their video series on authors and mags. We made a vision board with colorful post-it notes with our goals for the coming years.

I can’t wait to see where this takes us. If I could make this a career and make money at it, you had better believe I would, in a heartbeat. It’s everything I want to do, rolled up in one. And as you can probably tell, if you’ve made it this far into my blog, I talk about it a LOT.

Check out our latest issues. I think you’ll like what you see. 🙂
